Reports on Power Grids & EPA Update
The US Coast Guard and various government operations have been able to help get San Juan and a handful of other industrial ports of Puerto Rico back in operation (mostly on generator power).
The rest of Puerto Rico continues to struggle, with millions of people and businesses on the island without power. Initial reports are confirming fears that the power grids of both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have sustained almost complete destruction to the power infrastructure.
The NY Times is currently reporting the country could be facing months in the dark since 80% of T&D infrastructure is gone.
Due to these unique emergency conditions, the EPA just expanded the no action assurance and announced that any restrictions on mobile power generators imported before January 31, 2018, will be relaxed.
You can find a copy of the updated version in PDF form from the EPA here (updated September 27, 2017). The policy allows the agency to relax requirements on emissions and allows businesses and individuals the ability to run generators as long as necessary during emergencies like this.
Shipping to the Islands
We have been working closely with freight operators who have boats scheduled every few days. Most shipments have been going to various ports in Florida and/or Texas then transferred via boat to their destination from there.
With over 40 years of buying, selling and shipping industrial and commercial generators around the globe, we are constantly replenishing our inventory. If you are working with (or for) someone in an impacted area and require an industrial or commercial sized diesel generator, be sure to visit our inventory page to see in-stock units or call us (866) 518-1240.
