You Can’t Have Downtime When You Count On Airtime!
Colorado Generator Source Teams Goes High Atop A Mountain To Make Sure a TV Station Can Broadcast A Signal.

In the world of television broadcasting, downtime means lost revenue and loyal viewership. So obviously, a television station’s mountaintop antenna must have backup power to send a signal! That’s where Generator Source comes in.

“Today we are performing a repair to this standby genset as the radiator has been leaking for some time,” said Glen, a Generator Source technician. “This standby Kohler diesel unit is on the top of this mountain so getting a crane up on the skinny, one-way dirt road to pull the radiator is going to be the biggest challenge, but we will get it fixed and remounted—no sweat!

“This antenna powers the TV station’s signal, so it must be powered 100% of the time,” continued Glen. “Could you imagine the fan’s uproar if the home team’s game wasn’t on or what if there was a major news event in the Denver area? The news team and station need power to keep people informed, entertained and pay the bills.

“Before we start working on the generator, we will connect a rental unit to the power supply, so the antenna still has backup power,” says Glen. “In the world of television, downtime means lost airtime and lost airtime means commercials don’t run, ratings aren’t earned and that would result in a fortune of lost revenue.”

Glen went about his work to prep the unit for the radiator removal after connecting the portable rental unit. The rental unit will serve as standby power until we can fully fix the radiator. The crane team will back up the steep, single lane dirt road and lift the radiator on to an awaiting truck for service.
