City Departments Count On Generator Source To Keep Things Flowing Smoothly
Do You Have A Generator That Needs Attention?

Water flow in a city’s complex sewer and filtration system is key to clean water and removing waste. These systems must have backup power to make sure residents get clean drinking water and that waste is properly treated and disposed of. That’s where Generator Source helps the system flow smoothly!

Colorado Lift Station Generator Being Serviced“Today I’m here getting ready to work on this 40 kW natural gas Olympian,” said John, a generator technician at Generator Source. “This is another city water lift station.

“I’m going to give this unit a good look, before I think about starting it or even turn a wrench,” continued John. “Looks like some strange old insulation of some type here. When I first opened the unit, I thought it might have been some kind of wasp nest or beehive. Glad it was just some old insulation, so we will clear that out of there.”

John then cleared the old debris and began to inspect the industrial genset. Going down his checklist, he inspected all hoses, seams and wiring. He looked for any issues, signs of leaks or wear.

“After giving the Olympian a thorough visual inspection, it was time to start it up and listen to the unit,” said John. “During a short run test, I will monitor temperatures and right after, I will take samples of oil and coolant to send to our lab. These samples and my inspection will give us a snapshot of the unit’s current condition and health.

“Now it’s time to change all the filters and fluids,” added John. “After that, we will run the generator for a load bank test. During that test we run the unit anywhere from 2-4 hours, gradually adding load to the unit until its at 80% capacity.

“We record all the vitals at each load level as we reach up to 80% to make sure the generator is ready to perform when the power goes out, moving this water though this low area so there is no backup for the city’s system.”

This service call is another example of why you should not only have backup power as outages and electrical demand are both on the rise, but also, if you currently have a standby generator, you should keep it well maintained.
