Custom Generator Decom & Installation Performed At Beachfront Condo Complex
Performing The Decommissioning Of An Older Unit And Installing A New 300 kW Gillette Required Customization, Ingenuity & Expertise!

In early December, Generator Source replaced a generator for Captiva Condos. This beachfront property had unique challenges because of its location and setup.
With a failing 300 kW generator suffering from major rust and an ECU failure, it was time for an upgrade. Our team replaced it with a new Gillette 300 kW industrial genset. This standby generator is custom fitted to meet the property's needs and ensure long-term reliability.

The project began with the removal of the old generator, which was completed in one day. On the second day, our team brought in the new Gillette 300 kW unit. However, the generator’s placement in a lower-level parking garage made for a challenging installation.
Our technicians skillfully placed the generator on skates. They carefully moved it across the lot and into position. They navigated tight spaces with great precision.

Customized for Coastal Durability
Beachfront locations present unique challenges because of constant exposure to salty air and moisture. To ensure the longevity of this generator, our team installed custom stainless-steel ductwork, exhaust, vent fans, and hardware.
The designers crafted every detail with durability in mind, safeguarding the generator against the harsh coastal environment.

Making It Work: Electrical Modifications
The current transfer switch at Captiva Condos is rated for 600 amps. Connecting it to the new generator called for clever engineering.
Rather than replacing the original breaker, our team modified it and fabricated a custom panel extending from the enclosure.
This allows the breaker to stay intact for load testing. It also made sure the new generator worked well with the system.

A Collaborative Effort
This intricate installation included:
Step One: Placing the generator and setting up the foundation.
Step Two: Custom fabrication of the breaker box, exhaust, and standard connection box.
Step Three: Hooking up all connections and finalizing the system.
The team had Scott, our on-site fabricator, and Roy, our technician. Roy managed the technical connections and specifications.
Roy reflected on the experience. He said, “It was a challenge. However, we had the tools to customize this unit for skill and durability.”
